The launch of the first issue of our journal Analekta Stagon kai Meteoron/Analecta Stagorum et Meteororum took place at the Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens on the 7th of December 2022, gathering a diverse audience of clerics and researchers from different institutions. The presentation was introduced by his Grace, the Metropolitan of Stagoi and Meteora Theoklitos, who conceived the idea of our foundation and has been a vital supporter ever sicne. His Grace offered in his talk a concise history of the local Church, underlining the need for the study of its spiritual and cultural reserve. Then, the Academy’s director, Dr. Konstantinos Vapheiades, spoke of the Academy as an on-going project, analyzing its targets and priorities in research.
The introductory talks were followed by the presentation of the articles from the field of history and intellectual history by Angeliki Delikari, associate professor of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and president of the Hellenic Historical Society. Prof. Delikari, an expert in Byzantine and Slavic history of the late Middle Ages, introduced the audience to the historical issues raised in the pages of our journal. With a penetrative and critical view, Prof. Delikari discussed historical aspects of Thessaly’s Serbian and Ottoman periods, as well as of a certain phenomenon in printing culture that pertained to the movement of Modern Greek Enlightenment. Moreover, Anastasia Drandaki, associate professor of the University of Athens and research collaborator of the Benaki Museum, presented the articles from the fields of art history and material culture. Prof. Drandaki delved on the four relevant articles with deep knowledge of their subjects, thanks to her interdisciplinary scholarly profile. The “Cretan School” of painting, the dissemination of Russian art in Greece and the textile culture of Ottoman Trikke were the subjects touched in this part of the presentation. The two talks were complemented by PowerPoint presentations.
